Introduction

A social platform for developers, documented folder by folder.

DevConnect is a social platform for developers: register with email or GitHub, build a profile, find developers, exchange connection requests, publish feed posts, post and apply to jobs, receive notifications, and chat in real time.

The frontend is a React 19 single-page app (Vite, Redux Toolkit, React Router, Tailwind with Radix UI). The backend is a Node CommonJS app (Express 5, MongoDB with Mongoose, Socket.io with a Redis adapter). The two apps install and run independently — see Project structure.

These notes describe what each folder owns and how the folders talk to each other. They never explain code — for behaviour, read the linked sources in the repo itself. Where the repo was unclear, the page says so.

Start with Installation, then Project structure, then High-level architecture.

Tech stack at a glance

The codebase is JavaScript and JSX throughout: a Node CommonJS backend and a Vite-bundled React frontend. Authentication is JWT plus bcrypt — the manifests also declare better-auth, but no source file imports it.
